Horse Handedness/Right or Left

Horse Handedness/Right or Left Favored?

People are often referred to as right or left handed. Some are able to use each hand equally (ambidextrous), but not often. In the animal kingdom there seems to be a preference, as well. Recently a study was done to determine how to tell this preference. The study seems to conclude that there may be a link between facial hair whorls and horse 'handedness.' The study, "Facial hair whorls (trichoglyphs) and the incidence of motor laterality in the horse," is scheduled to be published in an upcoming edition of the journal, Behavioral Processes.

The link above will take you to an excellent article that explains this phenomena.
